The Swedish Colorectal Cancer Registry (SCRCR) consists of two registries, one for rectal cancer and one for colon cancer. Colorectal is the third most common tumor type in Sweden and, together with lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer death.
The registry covers patients of all ages. Data collection for patients diagnosed with rectal cancer started from 1995, and colon cancer started from 2007. Reporting from the registry is done separately for the two diagnoses.
Annual national reports are produced by the national steering group for the registry in collaboration with the Regional Cancer Center North.
The purpose of the register is to
- map routines, methods and outcomes of patients with colorectal cancer
- be supportive of local improvement work
- enable follow-up of care programs
- hypothesis-generating for research projects and clinical studies.
The goal of the colorectal cancer quality registry is to use the collected data to improve treatment and survival of patients and to reduce any differences at the regional and hospital level to achieve equivalent and optimal care across the country.
